Why Should You Work?
A few days back, I asked a question across my social media platform asking why I have to work to make money.
If you missed the post in question, see this tweet…
And read further here.
To be honest with you, I knew I need to work regardless. However, it was a down moment for me and I’ll say I was looking for an excuse to be lazy.
To the glory of God, I did not get any because all the people I have in my community shared their views on the essence of work. Thereby, giving me the needed push to keep working hard.
So, here we go.
Why should you work?
“Work, well-done, does good to the man who does it. It makes him a better man.” - The Richest Man in Babylon.
This is particularly true of everyone who works hard at their craft. I am a testament to it as I have seen past works open doors to new opportunities in the few years I have had a job.
As nice as it would be for me to have financial freedom without any effort on my part, it is very unrealistic. Else, the theory of sowing and reaping would be a fallacy.
Quite interesting comments trailed the post which inspired this article so I’ll share them with you.
Perhaps the most striking comment for me was made by Ayomide and Seun.
Ayo said, “If I commit myself to do what I don’t have passion for because of money, I might get the money but I’ll lose my peace. It all boils down to fulfilling purpose.”
While Seun said, “Being purposeful is one thing that will keep one standing. Understanding the impact of your role on the world generally.”
I totally agree with their positions. Once you know your purpose of being on earth, doing it becomes easy.
Yes, there will be times when you feel discouraged but remembering that playing your role will help someone out there will serve as a boost.
In his response, Cephas asserts that passion will sometimes not pay the bills. So, one has to work. And Goodness advised that you separate work from hobbies. You know, to have balance.
Another lady, Uddy reminded me of something I really needed to hear again when she said, “We look up to successful people a lot for their accomplishments but never the stress they go through in order to achieve those things.”
And I ask myself, what have I gone through that I am looking for an escape route? In this time and era, being poor is a function of one’s laziness.
If anyone will make work their friend, they will live this soft life. After they must have worked sha.
Nothing good comes easily. I bet you know that already.
This should serve as a call to action for you to get up and work.
Whatever your hands find doing, do it well.
Cheers to your financial freedom.
